Objectives of the project

Ischemic heart disease (IHD) arises from genetic and lifestyle factors, and diet is an important modifiable component of lifestyle. This points to the need for detailed knowledge of how foods and nutrients affect IHD development. The objectives of this research project are:

  • to provide novel, comprehensive knowledge regarding the effects of energy-providing foods and macronutrients on IHD development
  • to translate the knowledge obtained into scientifically-founded, food-based dietary guidelines targeted at preventing IHD development in the general population
  • to test the implementation of new dietary guidelines in the general population
  • training of PhD and postdoctoral fellows
  • to disseminate new knowledge about the importance of diet in the development of IHD to relevant stakeholders and end users
